Ahoy table lamp

The “Ahoy” Table Lamp seamlessly blends nautical tradition with contemporary design. The “Turk’s Head” (AKA “monkey’s fist”) knot, traditionally tied by sailors, has been dramatically magnified and carefully balanced on a pair of large, golden knitting needles. The unassuming white rope is meticulously wound and tightened in multiple layers, creating a soft, symmetrical form. With the touch of a switch, the knot comes to life, as a soft light flows along its length, transforming it into an inviting and tactile lighting fixture.

The light source is a high-quality LED strip, manually threaded into a five meter long braided nylon rope. The stable base, from which the knot ascends, draws inspiration from modernist design – the geometric precision of Bauhaus and the raw, honest expression of Brutalism, celebrated through the use of polished concrete. These stylistic elements are deeply embedded in the material culture of Israel, shaping the character of its young urban landscape.

The lamp is rich in distinctive design details: an impression in the concrete casting conceals a sensor that controls the light’s on/off function and dimming capability. A leather handle on the front facilitates the movement of the heavy fixture when needed. At the back of the base, an elegant plate isolates the electrical components, allowing only a woven fabric cable to connect to the power supply, completing a precisely designed product that embodies the essence of contemporary design from top to bottom.
